Reward for accompanying the funeral procession

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 2, Number 45]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “(A believer) who accompanies the funeral procession of a Muslim out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s reward and remains with it till the funeral prayer is offered and the burial ceremonies are over, he will return with a reward of two Qirats. Each Qirat is like the size of the (Mount) Uhud. He who offers the funeral prayer only and returns before the burial, will return with the reward of one Qirat only.”

What Left with a Dead Man?

[Sahih Muslim : Book 42 “Kitab Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqa’iq”, Number 7061]

Mutarrif (Radi Allah Anhu) reported on the authority of his father: I came to Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam)as he was reciting: “Abundance diverts you” He said (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam):
“The son of Adam claims: My wealth, my wealth. And he (the Holy Prophet) said: O son of Adam. is there anything as your belonging except that which you consumed, which you utilized, or which you wore and then it was worn out or you gave as charity and sent it forward?”

[Sahih Muslim : Book 42 “Kitab Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqa’iq”, Number 7063]

Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) as saying:
“A servant says, My wealth. my wealth, but out of his wealth three things are only his: whatever he eats and makes use of or by means of which he dresses himself and it wears out or he gives as charity, and this is what he stored for himself (as a reward for the Hereafter), and what is beyond this (it is of no use to you) because you are to depart and leave it for other people. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of al-‘Ala’ b. ‘Abd al-Rahman with the same chain of transmitters.”

[Sahih Muslim : Book 42 “Kitab Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqa’iq”, Number 7064]

Anas b. Malik (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) as saying:
“Three things follow the bier of a dead man. two of them come back and one is left with him: the members of his family. wealth and his-good deeds. The members of his family and wealth come back and the deeds alone are left with him.”

Sadaqat-ul-Fitr

[Sahih Bukhari : Volume 2, Book 25 Zakat ul Fitr, Number 579]

Narrated Ibn Umar (Radi Allah Anhu) Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) enjoined the payment of one Sa’ of dates or one Sa’ of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the ‘Id prayer. (One Sa’ = 3 Kilograms approx.)

Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allah Anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) prescribed Zakat-ul-Fitr of Ramadan one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of barley for every individual among the Muslims (whether) free man or slave, male or female, young or old.

[Sahih Bukhari : Volume 2, Book 25 Zakat ul Fitr, Number 588]

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) has made Sadaqatul-Fitr obligatory, (and it was), either one Sa’ of barley or one Sa’ of dates (and its payment was obligatory) on young and old people, and on free men as well as on slaves.

Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allah Anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) ordered that the Sadaqat-ul-Fitr should be paid before the people go out for prayer.

[Sahih Bukhari : Volume 2, Book 25 Zakat ul Fitr, Number 585]

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allah Anhu): The Prophet (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) ordered the people to pay Zakat-ul-Fitr before going to the ‘Id prayer.

[Sahih Bukhari : Volume 2, Book 25 Zakat ul Fitr, Number 587]

Narrated Nafi’: Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allah Anhu) said, “The Prophet (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) made incumbent on every male or female, free man or slave, the payment of one Sa’ of dates or barley as Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (or said Sadaqa-Ramadan).” The people then substituted half Sa’ of wheat for that. Ibn ‘Umar used to give dates (as Sadaqat-ulFitr). Once there was scarcity of dates in Medina and Ibn ‘Umar gave barley. ‘And Ibn ‘Umar used to give Sadaqat-ul-Fitr for every young and old person. He even used to give on behalf of my children. Ibn ‘Umar used to give Sadaqatul-Fitr to those who had been officially appointed for its collection. People used to give Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (even) a day or two before the Eid.

Amount of Sadaqat-ul-Fitr per person in Pakistan is PKR 75/-

Rewards for those who Fasts in Ramadan

[Sahih Bukhari : volume 3, Book 31, Number 118]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter). So, the person observing fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should tell him twice, ‘I am fasting.” The Prophet added, “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), ‘He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.”

[Sahih Bukhari : volume 3, Book 31, Number 120]

Narrated Sahl (Radi Allah Anhu): The Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, ‘Where are those who used to observe fasts?’ They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it.”

[Sahih Bukhari : volume 3, Book 31, Number 122]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened.”

[Sahih Bukhari : volume 3, Book 31, Number 123]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.”

Utmost Kindness and Courtesy for Guests in Islam

[Sahih Muslim : Book 18, Book Name Kitab Al-Aqdiyya, Number 4286]

Abd Shuraib al-Adawi (Radi Allah Anhu) reported: My ear listened and my eye saw when Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) spoke and said:

“He who believes in Allah and the hereafter should show respect to the guest even with utmost kindness and courtesy. They said: Messenger of Allah, what is this utmost kindness and courtesy? He replied: It is for a day and a night. Hospitality extends for three days, and what is beyond that is a Sadaqa for him; and he who believes in Allah and the Hereafter should say something good or keep quiet.”

[Sahih Muslim : Book 18, Book Name Kitab Al-Aqdiyya, Number 4287]

Abu Shuriah al-Khuza’i (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) as saying:

“The period of the entertainment of a guest is three days, and utmost kindness and courtesy is for a day and a night. “It is not permissible for a Muslim to stay with, his brother until he makes him sinful. They said: Messenger of Allah, how he would make him sinful? He (the Holy Prophet) said: He stays with him (so long) that nothing is left with him to entertain him.”
